Small Workout Spinach: Gains

Munching on my fresh spinach blueberry salad I ponder the lyrics “I’m goin’ back to the earth.” Mraz really exemplifies a way of thinking that I quite agree with. Honestly, I think that everyone could gain something from these lyrics.

Mraz, encourages listeners to “turn off your phone.” This is such succinct advice yet in today’s life may seem almost unthinkable. With the thought that people need you, so I need to stay connected.
interesting, I have to agree with his point.

Quite a rip-roaring workout session. My focus today was arms, butt, and my favorite abs. It’s nice to get back into the groove of working out. This is the longest workout I’ve accomplished since my surgery.

Opa!

XHIT is always on my go-to morning workout routine.

I do think that working out is like hitting the refresh button.

Here are my top XHIT workouts:

Killing Dreary Winter Days with XHIT and Veggies!

Thank you so much for the XHIT workouts posted on youtube. Let me tell you I LOVE THEM! I’ve been killing it recently with their ab workouts, most of which I can do as they don’t require my feet. Ha, that is still QUITE  an ordeal. though yesterday I was so elated to finally meet my goal of 3,000 steps! Which all-in-all isn’t that much but let me tell you for someone with a walking cast two inches higher than their normal foot, it is quite something!

Eat Healthy. Drink Water. Don’t be a succulent.

With my workouts, I’ve been tidying up my diet and eating habits. I’m working towards cutting out processed foods, which let me tell you is no small feat! Good gravy! It has taken quite a bit of creativity to pull off!

So here was my lunch today,

Omelet-tada

Here’s how I made it.

Veggie Omeletada!

Because -ada is an amazing ending for any amazing food!

1/2 Red pepper

Red onion

Zucchini

cumin

Carrots

2 eggs

Splash of milk

In a small bowl whip your eggs and milk together. Next, pour mixture into a sauce pan-omelet pan, and cook until the spatula can slide under without the eggs. The top of the eggs should be slightly bubbled over in some places and be glassy yellow. Now, after chopping all the vegetables add in a layer across one side of the eggs, wait 1 minute and then flip the other side. The omelet-ada is complete!

Magnifico! you will have a wonderful protein healthy lunch or dinner to enjoy.

Recovery: Coffee, Family, and Stumbling

Steaming hot coffee greeted my mouth as I gazed across the frigid white country. The snow outside my window webbed the trees some of it standing four or five inches tall on the very limbs themselves! what a lark it would be to tromp around in the snow, but Ha! little luck there as I heft around this lugubrious boot. Though it is quite a pain to wear this boot I am surely glad that I’m not still wearing one of those stiff and dare I say smelly casts.

Just so you’re aware, my dear readers, I did not use a picture of my foot as I’m sure you’ve guessed. I’m sadly not that tan.

During this forced time of recovery, I’ve been struggling through writing a couple articles. Admittedly now, after submitting two from my editor’s topics, I find myself rather up a tree, as I search for another topic, which is quite difficult since I haven’t been out on a regular basis. Writing for the newspaper, however, is a blessing and a distraction. Like Crosby sang: Count your blessings instead of sheep.

So, since my surgery, it has been roughly six weeks. And after these painful and somewhat excruciating weeks, I’ve pondered quite a lot about life. My foot, after the checkup, was proven “quite healthy” by the doctor. I have quite a different opinion as its attached to my leg. Hehe, it is feeling quite a lot better despite its grotesque appearance.

Another thing I’ve had to combat as I recover is not working out! Its been a trifle disheartening. Though I have been able to keep up with my ab exercises and arm workouts. Which indeed has kept me sane. Let me say, I am a huge fan of XHIT!

Here are some of the workouts I’ve been doing:    Washboard Abs

I’ve also been doing heel-to-knee and leg lifts a lot. The heel-to-knee bicycling sadly must take the place of my bicycle for now (sad face). I can’t wait to bicycle again! I’ve always hoped that one summer I could do this notorious biking “trek” across Lawrence Ks. called “Lizard in the Skillet.” Quite a comical race to be sure, it’s in the hottest part of summer and after the race, they provide free salsa and heated blankets!

Not to say that I’m killing it with workouts now, to my dismay I’m not. I guess I’ve been concentrating a lot more on my diet. I’ve been really enjoying kale/spinach smoothies from my Nutribullet. I really do prefer kale to spinach. Hehe, there’s the vegetable farmer’s daughter comin’ out in me!

Here’s one of my favorite smoothie recipes:

1 c. blueberries

1/4 c. peaches (I used frozen)

1 banana

bunch of cilantro

1 cup kale/spinach

3 ice cubes

1/2 c. milk (I prefer using almond milk but cow milk works well too! 🙂

Fill Nutri-bullet to proper line, not too full- bad things happen if it’s too full, trust me! Then blend, for three 50 second intervals. And voila!

I’ve also been keeping my hands busy with knitting. I’m knitting a blanket! That is just on the cusp of being finished. Super think and amazing! Let me tell you, its taken quite a couple fort-nights to knit, but I must say that it has paid off nicely. Quite warm!

A Shot Rang Out: Insomnia: One Day Closer

A round of shots rang out. My eyes flitted open nervously as I scoured the room looking for a threat. The white curtains were illuminated by the still pallor of the moon. It was a nightmare that woke me up in a cold sweat.

Reaching for my phone to check the time the screen cracked a little more shattering any image the phone had. Blackness. The wind picked up and a scuffling sounded from the window.

The cold linoleum pricked my bare feet in the still darkness. My kitchen was lit by an LED bulb that my most dutiful S.O. gave me. The darkness framed my windows. It was 4:30. Insomnia has its bouts of bitterness.

Fumbling around in the light of my lamp, because Lord knows, the average person who awakes at 4:30 is still in the process of waking. I happened across my lovers name tag. His name in straight Arial font gazed up at me in the glowing light. I was transfixed for a minute, wondering, wishing for his safety.

The oatmeal canister stood attention in the darkness of my cupboard, giving me the “How does the do!” of the morning. After fixing a plan bowl of oatmeal with a spoonful of brown sugar, because in my book Saturdays and brown sugar go together ;). My coffee pot began perking out the smells wafting through my kitchen of cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg and vanilla. A perfect mug of piping hot coffee. Yum!

The sun bravely started shining through my curtains as I began my 100 squat workout. Today, I switched things up after that jumping into a leg workout afterwards then abs. These were all provided by my lovely XHIT gals down there on youtube. I am a huge fan of XHIT!! Great way to get me going in the morning.

Largely the rest of my day consisted of brain training–focusing on memory and speed. Which I believe will be a great addition to my turtle-like RAM. Duolingo is a great asset for learning languages.
